Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) is a premier medical institute of India located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. It was established in 1983.[1]
About
The Institute is located on a sprawling 550 acres (2.2 km2) residential campus at Raebareli Road, 15 km away from the main city. The institute offers its own degrees, which are duly recognized by the Medical Council of India. The Institute is rated amongst the top medical institutions in the country, delivering state-of-art tertiary medical care, super-specialty teaching, training and research. Dedicated faculty members endeavor to provide quality education, patient care and research and strive to meet the challenges and needs of the society. The Institute offers DM, MCh, MD, PhD, Post Doctoral Fellowships (PDF) and Post Doctoral Certificate Courses (PDCC), and Senior Residency in various specialties. The peers in the field have recognized the courses offered by the Institute and the candidates obtaining degrees from SGPGIMS have been highly placed both within the country and abroad.[2]

SGPGIMS is both an educational institute that imparts postgraduate medical training and a working hospital that provides inexpensive medical care to a large number of patients. It is a tertiary care referral hospital that caters to patients referred from not only the nearby villages and towns but also to patients referred for advanced medical care from King George Medical College in Lucknow and distant areas such as Patna (Bihar), Rewa (Madhya Pradesh), and even Nepal.

Ch.(Magister Chirurgi), and M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) programs, training residents in various surgical and medical superspecialty and specialty fields but it also runs Ph.D. programs for basic science research in various subjects.

The institute is named after Sanjay Gandhi, a prominent Indian National Congress politician and son of Indira Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India.
